This page is a temporary introduction to Chris Kondek's generative images. ------------------------------------------------> chris kondek +491709036916 ckondek@mykolab.com

The following images are generated from "normal" photographs which are processed using software I created. (software is written in Openframeworks)

The process is an iterative one. The same algorithm manipulates the pixels in a photograph in a series of repeated steps. (approximately 300 - 1000 iterations)

The images on this page are low resolution copies, about 1 mb each. The originals are approximately 35 mb. (5616 x 3744).

Although they seem at home on a screen, my intention is to print them at larger sizes. 4 of them have been printed 90 x 60 cm on Hannemühle Büttenpapier.

After the seven examples on this page are detailed close-ups plus a short description and animation of the process.

CLOSE UP DETAILS of FLOW1. These details are less obvious on screen, but in the larger prints there is a very present play between marco and micro structures.

Certain variables of the algroithm can be adjusted producing numerous styles and variations from the same original photo.

WORKING METHOD

These flow images are produced by generating a displacement map out of the original Photograph. In other words a map where every postion of points in a certain direction. At each iteration every pixel checks this map for instructions where to move next.

THE ORIGINAL

Visualizations of displacement map

This is an iterative process. Each image goes through 300 to 1000 steps. These animations of the steps show the movements of pixels.
